I'm applying almost exclusively for MD/PhD and I'm concerned about my clinical experiences. I've done about 7.5 hours shadowing a oncologist/hematologist; and I'm currently working on a research project that collaborates with a doctor, though I've only met the doctor once (I don't work with him directly). To my credit though I've worked in residence life as an RA and so I'm really trying to sell that aspect. I plan to do some more shadowing in the fall, but I'll need to have my applications in before I can continue that. Will I be alright?

to be honest, that is going to be a little light on clinical experiences. Doesn't mean you shouldn't apply though. Really try to think about what you are hoping to convey through your clinical experiences. Things like demonstrating knowledge about the day-to-day aspects of being a physician, seeing the pro's and con's of the job, having specific experiences that really get you excited about medicine, etc.. I think the biggest point in question for you as an MD/PhD applicant with limited clinical exposure is that you really know what being a physician entails and you have a compelling reason for wanting both degrees. Think about how you can answer or preemptively address these concerns in interviews.

Also, while more clinical experiences won't help your written application if you have to submit it already, it will certainly be helpful to talk about in interviews.

Good luck!
