I could really use some advice, I think I made a mistake by assuming I would still qualify as "in-state"...
I was born and raised in NJ, but attended college in RI. I got a job in RI after graduating may 2009 and have lived in RI since - my parents still live in NJ. I submitted my AMCAS in June 2010 and declared NJ as my permanent residence. I was only one year out of college and I didn't think twice about it because I do consider NJ to be my permanent residence (still have NJ license, have voted absentee, planned to return to NJ after finishing my two-year contract doing research and do receive some support from my parents who are still in NJ). I was 22 when I submitted AMCAS and now I'm 23.
I was so sure I was still an NJ resident... tonight I found something online about how you prove that you are an NJ resident. It says you can't use your parents' address to prove that you're in-state if you will be 24 by Dec 31, the year of the award. Because of the long process of applying, I started this process as 22 but would turn 24 just after matriculating (before Dec 31 2011). I assume that "year awarded" means year you matriculate. I didn't realize until now that this would be an issue. What do I do? What will happen to me if I were to be accepted and cannot prove that I'm a resident after all?
I am very worried... 🙁
