I recently (11/21) received (via email) a letter from Massey that says it is a "Conditional Offer of Place" I tend to think I should not get too excited and that it probably is just Massey's way of saying that my application has been received and is currently under review. I would love to think it means I am close to acceptance but I don't want too get excited without reason. What do you all think/does anyone know for sure? Thanks.

Most places that offer you a "conditional offer" require that you complete some task prior to becoming fully accepted. For instance, when I applied to Melbourne Uni. years ago - they gave me a conditional offer. They wanted me to take another class and achieve a B or better grade in it prior to starting vet school there. As it turns out, I didn't go (and couldn't complete that condition anyways, as no time to take another class).

Did Massey give you a "condition" that must be met?

Dear Cindy,
No they didn't give me a condition to fulfill. The letter says "Conditional Offer of Place": Programme approved into: Bachelor of Veterinary Science
Major: Not applicable, Campus Location: Palmerston North, Start Date: Semester 2, July 12, 2007. Then it says "Conditions" Admission into the programme is subject to selection by the College of Sciences. Your application will be considered the December selection committee meeting.
So that is why I think it only means I am in review or something like that but I think it is a strange way to put it-probably just a slight difference in speech. I got excited when I first saw it because of the phrase "offer of place" but the more I look at it, the more I think they must send this to everyone?

I would email Eloise (the international vet student liaison) and see how she translates it. It could just mean the international student office at Massey - as opposed to specifically the vet school - has processed your application.

In applying for the first, pre-selection, semester I got a "conditional offer of place," then an "offer of place" once I paid my fees. Getting into the vet program itself was a separate process. Don't know how it works for direct-entry students. Sorry, wish I could help more.

Are you applying as international? I did and haven't heard anything back yet (besides the initial email that they received my app).

Yes, I am applying International.

That is really good advice-I hesitated asking anyone @ Massey cause I didn't want them to think I was too stupid to understand them.

No worries. I just checked the selection page on the Massey Vet School site.

If you scroll down to the full-fee paying - group 2 - selection outcomes section, it describes the process. The deadline for applying is 28 February. The vet school selection committee meets in September, December and March to consider full-fee paying (ie, mostly foreign) direct-entry applicants. Applicants considered, but not selected in September or December, are held for reconsideration in March.
