First time to create a thread here. This article came out today and I am curious to know what people in the profession think about it.

For someone about to go into 4 years of Psychiatry residency training I could not help but raise an eyebrow (only slightly) after reading this article. But then again everyone's entitled to their own opinion 🙂

Interesting. It appears as though the 2 quoted psychiatrists are from the Phillipines and may not be operating on the more widely accepted American DSM-IV TR.

To me, it read like one of many attacks on psychiatry.

I raises interesting points but I wouldn't let it sway you in your career choice.

^^Astute observation. I graduated from a Philippine medical school and we do use DSM IV to aid us in diagnosing cases, which makes me wonder why the said psychiatrists seemed misguided.

Indeed the article exhibits some hues of anti-psychiatry, which I should get immune to huh? This is one of the reasons why I chose this field (over Peds which I have so much passion for as well), to help people understand in my own little way.

Thanks for your POV PsychMD2100. 🙂
