I get mixed messages from different people I talk to about how easy (or "possible") it is to be accepted. All of the dentists I shadow look at my transcript and say "you'll have no problem getting in" whereas many of my classmates are stressing over whether or not they will get in. This may be because many of my classmates have ~3.2 or less and are still trying to get in.

I got a 2.5 my first semester as a Mech. E. major. I had no motivation or interest in school.
Switched to Microbiology and it's been 4.0 ever since.
I currently have 3.59 cumulative GPA and 3.75 adjusted GPA (whatever that means) and it will only get higher, since I am doing great in school.

I am taking the DAT in August and have been studying from the Barron's book.
I got a 29 overall on my ACT, if that matters. I have seen DAT/ACT comparisons on the forum before.

So what do you guys think, am I on-track academically?

*Edit
BTW, I just finished my sophomore year, going into my junior year.

You sound like you'll do fine, but you can't take your dentist's words for anything because it was much easier back when they applied than it is now.

The dean of admissions at a school I talked to said they went and looked at their graduating class's applications last year and over half of them probably wouldn't make it in if they applied this year.

That might be a bit exaggerated.

Yea thats probable, but none the less it is still getting more and more competitive every year. Not even a comparison to when our dentists today (talking about the older ones) applied back then.

How old are the dentists you talked to? If they went to school within the last 10 years, they're probably right. If they went to school in the 90s, times have changed.

Most of them are young, in early to mid 30s. A few were in their 40s.
