Hey all. I know that there is information regarding this somewhere on this network but I was hoping someone could just directly give me a short explanation.

I know that AADSAS has the centralized system of sending out apps to selected schools and requires the $195 for 1st school, $60 for 10 schools, $50.. and so on. I also saw that each dental school requires their own fee (usually $75) to be sent in at the SAME TIME as AADSAS materials. So my question is, why am I sending two seperate payments for the same application? Or is there another application that I don't know about?

PLEASE HELP!!!! 😱

Many, many thanks in advance!

One payment is for AADSAS to SEND out your application to your designated school.

The other payment is for each of the dental schools to RECEIVE the application, process it, and such.... Usually, there is a secondary application with questions that that particular dental school wants answered that may or may not be in the AADSAS application

thankkkk you!

So applying to about 7 schools is gonna cost me around 1000 bucks, huh. So, so expensive. =(

It will end up being a lot more once you start figuring in other fees, interview and travel costs, etc. But initially, yes, about $1000.

Dont forget to factor in the cost of taking the DAT and sending out your scores to the individual schools. Then sending in your transcripts to AADSAS.

Yes it is an expensive process. Only a small price (well large to most of us right now) to pay to obtain a carieer we all want.
It is disturbing to think you are paying AADSAS a large fee to send out your application then paying just about the same to each school to have them look at your application. But it does take people to get all of this done, and for that it cost moeny.

So the individual dental schools will send out their own bills or does AADSAS add the inidivual schools' fees to thier bill?

Some schools don't have a secondary fee, while others range from $35 to $75 (anyone pay more?).

The schools don't really "bill" you, they just require the fee in order to complete your application. Symantics aside, the schools' fees are separate from AADSAS.

so basically you just send them a check around the same time you send your AADSAS?

It's almost like a whole other loan just to apply, and that's hoping you get in the first time around...this is ridiculous...lol

yep, 2 payments, 1 application. it sucks. the whole application process is what my grandfather likes to call "a racket." we're being "bamboozled."

Some schools want it immediately. Others want it when you send in your secondary. And there are a few that want it when you interview.

In the most ideal situation...

Primaries (i.e. the AADSAS app) are sent as early as June 1st. This is submitted online with a credit card payment. They take about 4-8 weeks to process everything and send ur app to the dental schools you designated.

Dental schools review your app and if they like you, they'll send you a notification in the summer like in August to pay a $65-75 app fee (directly to them) and possibly complete a secondary application to still be considered for admission. If you don't pay the fee, they take it as a sign that you're not interested anymore.

From what I remember for secondaries... UCSF and UCLA's were pretty comprehensive. USC and UOP just ask for money. Harvard kinda combines the secondary and interview together, so if you get an interview, u have to fill out a pretty long secondary form before getting there.
