I sent in my secondary a few weeks ago and when I checked the mail this morning there was a postcard from LECOM marked with what I still need to submit. They are:
1. Professor letters (sent)
2. D.O. letter (sent)
3. Missing courses.

Under missing required courses is states "Deficient 5 credits Organic Chem due to GPA". I took a year of Organic in 1992-93 and got a D+/C (painful to bring up). Fast forward 9 years and now I'm a Grad student with a much better gpa (4.0) and scored an average 24 MCAT, and have had a year of biochem (1994 biochem-I C+ and 2001 biochem II A). I wasn't able to take any core courses over yet due to my grad schedule, but applied anyway to give myself every chance.

So my questions are:
1. Why did they include missing courses on the postcard and not just reject me? Therefore,
2. Are they leaving some kind of window open for me?
3. Is there anything I can point out to them to keep me in the application pool. Biochem, grad gpa trend....
4. Is there enough time to retake and submit a semester of O-chem.
5. Am I just grabbing at things trying to stay afloat when I'm doomed to drown at LECOM?

Thanks for reading. I'm probaby rambling because LECOM and Ohio-U are my top picks. I plan on giving them a call new week (after they receive my letters). I was also thinking about driving up there (1.5 hours from home), and meeting with someone face to face. Can you tell I'm scared?

Im guessing its that D+. At my first school a D+ counted as a credit towards graduation but it wasn't considering a passing grade to let you move on. ie I got a D+ in gen chem I my first time around and I was forcefully withdrawn from gen chem II the next semester.

as for retaking it. I guess it all depends on the school and the grade you get. You can always take it in the spring but the ultimate decision is with the school.

Most schools require a minimum of C grades in any prereq classes in order to give you credit towards med school requirements. If you got a D+ then they are expecting you to repeat that class before matriculation or possibly before they will give you an interview. I would say your only hope is to enroll in the class for the next semester and then ask the school if they will consider the class as in-progress and still grant you an interview based on your enrollment to complete the course before matriculation.
