Hi all, I'm really confused about how the LOR process works. Granted I'm going to be applying next year, but I just want to make sure I'm prepared with my LORs (I don't want to wait till the last minute to ask for them). First of all, do you guys recommend that I submit my LORs through the AADSAS? I'm not even sure how it works but from my understanding, you give AADSAS your professor's e-mail and they send them a LOR form to fill out, and then they send it back to AADSAS, who then sends it out to all the schools you are applying for, am I getting this right?!? I have also heard of students having their professors send LOR directly to the school...isn't this time consuming for the professor because they'll have to send out a bunch of LOR to different schools??? :scared:

Also, if I start asking for LOR now (remember I'm applying next year) what do I do with them? Keep them in my sock drawer?? Because I can't send it anywhere at the moment... OR should I wait till it's closer to next year to ask?? Also, does it matter how old the LOR is?? Say, if it's like 2 years old, does it matter?? I'm so confused!!!

What's the best way to approach this??

Thank you guys.

Yes, you are correct. You enter the professor's info into AADSAS and it sends them a link where they can upload the document which will then be sent out to each school you apply to.

You basically have 2 options, you can ask for them now and store them using a service such as Interfolio (which you later tell them to send to AADSAS when the time comes) OR you can wait until the application opens and you can have them upload it directly to AADSAS.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what I should do? I asked one of the professors I got great grades in for a LOR since june and he ignored my emails all summer. Sent him an email last monday and he said he'll finish it that day. Well here we are a week later and no updates after sending him 2 emails. I don't really have anyone else to write me a second science letter and its pretty damn late now, any idea on how I should approach this?

I dont think he understands the scope of the importance of this

Try talking to him in person and explain your situation. Does he have office hours?

Go to his office and talk to him in person if possible.

Base on this account, it is obvious that the professor doesn't care, so even if he wrote you a LOR, it would be a very generic and mediocre letter. Ask him only if you have no other choices, otherwise avoid at all cause.
