Confused on colleges?!

Okay, so I am currently at a local city college and planning to transfer within two years. I have been looking into universities lately and I am extremely confused, as I have heard that going to a more prestigious university such as: UCLA, Yale, Brown, etc. and getting good grades makes you more desirable for the top medical schools in the country. Is there any truth to this?

Also, would it make absolutely ANY difference to just go to a cal-state as oppose to a UC or any other out of state university?

It doesn't matter where you go to school. But there is some advantage to going to higher ranking school. However that advantage goes away when the GPAs are very different. A 3.8 at Harvard looks better than a 3.8 at a state school. However, a 3.2 at Harvard is worse than a 3.6 at a state school.

Rigor is only a minor portion of the application professional schools look at. From what I have observed if you can save money and go to a more affordable school and hash out a great GPA at a state school you will be far better off than going to a private school and incurring tons of debt and attaining medium to sub-par GPA.

So its really up to what you think you can do academically and financially.
