i just finished up my 2nd dat achiever test and im a little confused w/ the scoring
they say
aa =16
my overall scores are
qr 17
rc 20
bio 16
gchem 16
orgo 17
ts 17
they way i calculated the AA was an average of all 5 subtests
(16+16+17+20+17)/5= 17
some other people told me its
20RC +17Qr + 17TS /3 = 18
how did dat achiever get 16 for the aa??
what is the correct way to do this??

hey sunny, the same thing happened to me on test 2. i really dont know how their scoring works. the only 16 i got on test 2 was on bio (the rest were 17s, 18s, and 19), and i got an aa of 16. then, on test 3, i got a 15 on the pat section, and somehow ended up with an aa of 19.

anyways, how were u doing on ur topscore exams, and when do u plan on taking the dat? 🙂

hey is DAT achiever more difficult than the real DAT in terms of the science and the PAT... i hope so...

topscores are solid 19/20s AA----the pat's are about 21 avg'ed
im all over the place though one test i'll do really well in bio one well in chem and one in orgo
i've bene hitting 17's AA in dat achiever and 16's on its pat's

the real deal is this coming thursday....i hope i can pull of a 19 for both

Hi SunnyD0119,

I have been following your other threads about DAT Achiever. I am also using DAT achiever and TopScore. I think overall DAT achiever (especially their PAT) is much harder than the Topscore. I have only taken one test each from DATAcheiver and TopScore and seems like pulling more than 16 in PAT on DAT Achiever is quite difficult. I hope this will get better on real DAT.

Even, science section on DAT achiever is harder compared to Kaplan and TopScore. How did you score on Kaplan test (the one in blue book and also on CD ROM) ?

I think your solid 19/20 on TopScore AA should fetch you 20+ on real thing. I would really like to know how real DAT is compared to TopScore and DATAchiever once you take your DAT on Thursday. I am taking DAT in couple of weeks.

Good Luck !

Hey Sunny-

It seems that no one really answered your original question about how AA is supposed to be calculated. To my knowledge, AA is just the straight up average of each academic section. So just add and divide by 5 and, boom, you got yourself an AA 🙂

Again, good luck on your DAT tomorrow.

Someone else told me the same thing about a month ago but it doesn't make much sense. I mean we don't have 22.5 for AA. Is 22.5 22 or 23? I suspect they have a scaled average (just like scaled TS avg)...Average of the 5 scores probably gives a good estimate.

Haha, not to sound like a know-it-all, but I'm pretty much 100% sure that the AA is a straight up average. It is true that TS is scaled somehow, but AA is just simple add and divide (w/o the PA scores factored in, of course). A 22.5 would be considered a 23...they just round up/down to the nearest whole number. Hope that helps 🙂
