Hello everyone,
i will be a junior in my undergrad this year.

i have nooo idea when to apply.

i want to go to medical school the year i graduate (so right after my senior year). but i want to retake my classes that i got D's and F's in.

but when do i apply? Can i apply like....in january? or somethign? i dunno. im new at thsi stuff. plllleaaase help.

if you will be a junior this year you should plan to take the mcat in april 2004 (or august 2003 if you feel like you are ready now) and you should repeat whatever course work you feel is necessary over the next year. that way, you will be able to apply to med school in summer 2004 with the intent of attending med school fall 2005

you apply the year before you want to matriculate, so people applying now, june of 2003, are trying to matriculate fall of 2004.

Most schools have deadlines for secondaries nov and dec the year before.

Sure you can, but if you apply early in the application cycle (which is recommended) these re-takes won't show up on your transcripts, which mean that the schools will only see the Fs.

Silver_eyes,

You need to retake the courses you failed at the same school in order to supress the F grades. The F grades still show up on your transcript, but only the new grades will be used to compute your GPA. This procedure will only apply up to the first 16 units that you failed.

After 16 units, the school will take the average of the F and the new grade to compute the GPA for that class.....etc.

If you take the course at JC ( I assume you failed these classes at university), then you get credit for the degree, but I don't think your univeristy will use to grade at JC to supress the F grade though.

My advise is to take at the same school, ask the administration the procedure how to supress that F grade....etc. If you retake, make sure you MUST PASS, since some school only allow to repeat a class maximum 2 times. So be careful!

My 2 cents advice is taking care of the classes you failed at the same school, since it seems to me you already failed 3 classes.

MAKE SURE DON't FAIL MORE THAN 4 CLASSES AT THE SAME SCHOOL, if you fail more than 4 classes then your GPA will suffer a lot and it's very hard to boot up.

Have you considered taking a year or so off after you graduate? Is it extremely important to you that you go to med school after senior year? I think it will make the MCAT and the retaking classes process easier. You definitely want to get As in the retakes--which should be taken at the same school.

maybe for the school, but what is important is your AMCAS GPA and AMCAS includes all grades even if the class was retaken - so those Fs WILL count in it.

You don't want to open that can of worms.
