started a combined program, now realizing that would prefer to just do one area. also not happy about location. is it too early to want to switch into another program? to be closer to friends or family?

I can understand if you don't want to disclose much, but I guess the first thing that would help is if we knew what 2 specialties were in the combined program and which one you wanted to focus on.

you'll probably have to stick with things for at least this year, then perhaps could switch to a single specialty program. question is whether you want to stay or leave the hospital you're at. if you stay they may be more willing to work with you than if you prefer to leave and basically leave them looking for someone to fill all the hours you would have worked.

as a lesson to us matching this year, this person gives a good example of why you shouldn't rank any program you don't want to be at.
