Hey everyone
OK so im a pre med student who used to be a formeer pre dent just because i actually love both dental and medicine and i took the mcat last year and scored reallly REALLY bad so i took a year to study off and on but im still doing bad about the same as i started off and so now im thinking about switch to dental so how is it is DAT easier than MCAT? I never applied to med school and i have ECs in both med and dental so thats not gonna be a problema and i took all the premed and pre dent courses minus anatomy i think so what should i do???? is dental easier to get into i dnt mind studying for DAT instead of mcat but ill still give mcat a chance but its not like im improving so maybe God is keeping me away from med for some good reason? !!
I need adivce......

There was a huge thread on which is easier/harder to get into med. vs. dental, do a search.

stick with med actually, med is easier to get in if you are just looking to get that degree. There are many more mediocre/poor med schools out there than dental school.

Weigh your options. do what you really think you would love to be doing. Both are hard. MCAT has physics in it, and a writing section. The tests are different in format. DAT has an additional section...Perceptual ability test. I'm not sure if med school is easier or harder to get into though. For me I think that the DAT would be easier, because it is minus physics..(Physics is not one of my high points!!!!)

yes D.O. schools

There is nothing wrong with D.O.'s they are exactly the same as MD's...
One should not put other profession down. There is no such thing as poor/mediocre medical schools in US... may be out side of US...

MD's and D.O.'s sacrifice their life studying just like DDS or DMD. I hope you guys know that D.O's can do the same exact residency as MD's. Its FOOLISH to think that D.O. schools are mediocre...

If you come to think about it 10 years ago MCAT or DAT averages are not high as today... DOES that suffice to all the schools who produced wonderful medical doctors and dentists are mediocre?

Those docs' stats are mediocre compared to current stats, but at their time, they were the top dogs 🙂

Even for MD schools, there are more "mediocre" (sorry for the word usage, I don't know what else to describe them as. I mean they are in the middle of the spectrum) than dental schools.

the average MCAT score and GPA was 30.9 and 3.66 for students entering US-based MD programshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_MD_and_DO_in_the_United_States#cite_note-23, and 25.3 and 3.45 for DO applicants

They are merely numbers and does not indicate or prove that a person with 35 can make a better MD then a person w/ 25 who is a DO...

I am sorry, I do not mean to claim one is better than the other in terms of character or intelligence. I do hold the relization that DOs do bring many beneficial tecniques into the medical field. I am simply implying that if the OP's weakness is the MCAT than it might suffice him or her to apply to DO since the average MCAT score is lower at these institutions. Rather than changing to a completely different profession.

Thanks everyone for the advice i think im gonna keep praying till God shows me which is right for me 😀

Yea, keep pursuing Medical School. Work to score in the upper 20's on the MCAT and you could attend a D.O. school or even stand a chance at some medical schools. If you are really struggling to get the MCAT score up, consider Podiatry or Optometry. Everything I mentioned is very well respected. Medicine seems to be your true passion and there are many different forms.

That is what dentistry needs; applicants that couldn't make the grade with MCAT and believe the DAT is so much easier. A mirror might turn out to be infinitely more useful than invoking a deity for one's lack of success.

Yo doc t.

The comment you have made is absolutely wrong... There has been many studies... and here are the results... in video form

For the op, switching to dentistry because it's easier to get into than med is a terrible idea. Besides, I took the MCAT as well and scored just fine on the science sections (10 on physical sciences and 9 on Biological Sciences). And I never even studied for the MCAT. I got a 20 on the DAT to compare
