Is the Erythromycin+IV ceftriaxone prophylaxis used if mother has gonorrhea and the delivery is vaginal? I assume that is the case because back when I did the Peds rotation, the nurses only gave Erythromycin for all neonates. My book says use IM ceftriaxone as prophylaxis for N. gonorrhea conjunctivitis. So, I am assuming in this case, mother is positive for Gonorrhea.

Erythromycin and silver nitrate are the two eye drops given to the newborn.
if the mom is diagnosed with n.gonorrhea while pregnant then you treat her with the appropriate abx to prevent complications such as chorioamnionitis and premature rupture of membranes but this won't change the need for the 2 drops for the baby at birth
