Hey all,

As I'm writing my MD/PhD Essay and securing my W&A section on AMCAS, I recieved an email from my MD/PhD PI stating I was second author on a presentation to be given internationally! I was ecstatic. I then crashed back to reality...I am going to be on rotations during interviews in 2012. I'm sure I can pull some strings, do 16 hour shifts, whatever, to go for a few days. This conference is in October, though, and that month I have off.

Do interviews usually occur in October? I realize there are variables: school specific, submission of primary and secondary specific....but let's say I was within a week of all deadlines. Is going to this conference a bad idea, I'd rather not screw up any chances of an invite!

First interview I had was 19 October, but they had other dates and even asked me if that would be okay or if I wanted a later date.

October is pretty early in the season, so I would think that there would usually be some flexibility.

They often ask if there are any dates you can't make it for interviews on the secondary. If you do have to reschedule, be sure to tell them it's because of an international conference. Some schools will assume that you are interviewing at another school which you rank more highly if you request a reschedule, unless you tell them otherwise.

Thanks, good people! It turns out I probably won't go because there's not enough time for me to make up the hours in rotations / comfortably fit other interviews. I'm gonna have to pass on the int'l presentation, but I'll have damn good reasons.
