I'm a prehealth undergrad thinking about several health science grad programs including dentistry, audiology, etc. What is the best way for me to get a feel of what life as a practicing dentists would be like? Thanks for any help you guys give me!

Do you feel comfortable talking to the dentist you see regularly (if you go)? I hadn't gone to a dentist in a while and just moved so I had to cold call a few offices. Some gave me a run around how it was a long process and I would have to go through paperwork and all that aka I didn't follow through with them, but most were very friendly since they had been in similar positions and know what it is like. Then just go in before you start shadowing and meet the people that work in the office, from the receptionists to the hygienists to the dentists, and just tell them about yourself and you'll get a good sense for what would be a good fit for you. The office I ended up shadowing had 4 dentists and an ortho there and after a few "scheduled" shadowed times, they gave me the green light to shadow whenever I wanted. I was very fortunate to have that. They allowed me to come in however long I wanted, even if it was just 30 minutes or an hour during a study break.
