Hi all,
Right now I'm in a Master's program for medical anthropology. I'm thinking about my next steps and an MD is really appealing to me, in particular psychiatry. I like the idea of being able to go into work each day knowing I may help at least one person before I leave. I think that my expectations and idealistic views would receive a pretty bracing reality check if I ended up taking this route, yet it still appeals to me.
That said, I suppose my questions would be: Why did you choose psychiatry? I know a small amount about the biologically centered approach that psychiatry takes, so if anyone has any info on this--are there residency programs that take an integrative approach to psychiatry (social science and biology)? So for instance, I have done a little research into transcultural residency programs as well as epidemiologcial residency programs. And finally, for those of you studying and actually doing it now, do you like it?
Any opinions or input at all would be great.
Thank you!
