Hi all,

I graduated from undergrad this may and realized I had never taken Biochem I. So I took this one class this fall and got a B. Should I bother telling one of the schools which I am on the alternate list of? I realize its an important/ relevant class, but the B sort of brings down the GPA and doesn't look great considering it was the only class I was taking.

Thanks

It isn't a pre-req, right? If not, then don't worry about it. Schools want to see you graduate/get a C or better on classes after an acceptance. I don't think it is a big deal.

Well, as you said, a B in the only class you were taking isn't exactly super impressive. However, it's not a bad segway into a brief update letter that reiterates your desire to go to that school and your continued commitment to preparing yourself for medical school. Biochem is an important med school class and is much easier if you have undergrad exposure. So I'd go ahead and update them. 👍

Hey, with regards to the update/interest letter. Can you email these letters to the school or do you have to write and mail them a physical letter?

Thanks in advanced!

I personally like the paper letter to the Dean of Admissions the best. It's more substantial than an email. Harder to delete. Sits on a desk and serves as a better reminder of your commitment than an email buried among thousands of others in an inbox. Only takes a few more days to get there, so unless you need immediate delivery, go for paper + snail mail, IMO. 👍

if i were you...i would probably write an update letter stating that you took a biochem course ... I would not mention the B...just that you completed it successfully... as in ... I have taken taken additional courses to supplement my learning and succeeded successfully in that endeavor.
