Hi everyone. I have a few questions that I hope someone can help me out with. I am a new pharmacist and would though I have a job al ready would like to get into consultant pharmacy.

Has anyone taken the consultant pharmacist course at the University of Florida? And how was it? I would like to sign up for it and get the process started but don't know anyone that's taken it so any advice would be great.

Also, how hard is it to find a job as a consultant pharmacist? If anyone knows or has any connections in the South Florida area, I'd appreciate the help.

Thanks for reading my post

I'm not familiar with the course @ UF, but if you're in SoFla, I know NSU will be offering the Initial Consultant Pharmacist Licensure Program on 09/29-30. You can check here for more info.

SoFla seems pretty saturated now as far as job opportunities in consulting. However...I wouldn't let that get in your way if you are really interested in doing it. I have a few friends with consulting jobs in the area; it seems like you've got to find a few good connections...the job won't just fall into your lap.

Also...if you haven't already, you'll probably want to look into joining ASCP for additional resources and contacts 🙂

Good luck!!! 😉

Just curious... is the licensure program required for consultant pharmacists?

Who is the instructor for the course at the University of Florida?

There seems to be a few different people teaching the course, not just professors from UF. And yes, the course is required in the state of Florida along with a 40 hour internship. The Fl BOP approves your application after all requirements are met and then certifies you as a consultant pharmacist, then you just keep up with the extra 24 CE's on top of the 30 for your regular pharmacist license.

Thanks for all your help and the info Spiriva. One more question for you, who do your friends work for and do you know how they went about finding their preceptors for that portion of the certification process?

Thanks again guys!

A few of them work for NeighborCare, and then another for a LTC pharmacy in Weston...can't remember what it's called though. I'm not exactly sure how they set everything up, but I'll try calling them soon to find out what I can! 😉

Thanks Spiriva! You're awesome, you information was so helpful. I am taking the course at Nova next weekend. It's only two days, more like one and a half so hopefully I can find a way to get a preceptor there. Thanks again!
