For those people who have contacted a residency program to check up on the status of their application, how have you done it ... via phone or email? And is there a recommended method (i.e. one that bugs the program administrators less)?

Thanks.

What are you checking on exactly?

Email to the program coordinator, at least according to our program coordinator at a meeting w/ the 4th years last week. The main reason for this is that if the PC can't/won't answer the question, s/he can forward it to the appropriate person much more easily than if you call.

i was about to call a program coordinator today to check on the status of my application and noticed this link on the program's faq page
http://www.ohsu.edu/medicine/residency/application.html

"15. Do you have other general questions?

Feel free to contact us or go to this unaffiliated site (http://www.askmomaboutit.com/) on practical advice for medical resident applicants."

in very large font, it states, "don't call for 'status' on your application!"

it's difficult to decide if this is a site for program coordinator's to vent. obviously they would not be capable of handling 100's of compulsive med students calling daily about app status
