Contacting Other schools

Hey everyone,

I recently got an invite for Loyola and have applied to two other schools in the area (Rush and Northwestern). Is it appropriate for me to email them and ask them about my status as well as let them know when my interview with Loyola on the off chance that they might offer me an interview around the same date? Is this normally done? What would an email like this look like?

I would be surprised if medical schools would give special treatment and rush a decision on your application because it is geographically convenient for you.

I've heard of it working for some people but have no idea how effective it is. Couldnt hurt to try
