Just sent the PD a letter of strong interest yesterday, but wondering if I should email a duplicate of the letter just in case they are already creating their rank list. Bad idea? Over bearing?
Grounds for a restraining order?

(Damn, starting to feel like one of those high strung spaz'o med students)

Well, I only sent emails. I'm mailing from Canada, so it'd take too long and be far too unreliable for me to risk the letters not getting there on time.

I'd imagine that a PD wouldn't mind getting an email and a letter, provided they weren't the same. Take a few extra minutes to write a separate email. It'll make a restraining order less likely, and you'll look a lot less anal retentive. 😉

I actually just e-mailed a PD today stating that I was ranking their program first. I hope this wasn't inappropriate, but I have heard from MANY people that it is a good idea and that you should let your top three know that you will be ranking them highly. Any advice on this?

I emailed my top three. Told my first rank that they are first. Told the other two that they are ranked "very high".

The responses have been mostly "thanks and good luck" 😕

Can't wait till this is over

I did the same. I emailed my first choice and told them that I am ranking them first. I am also going to email number 2 and 3 and let them know that I am ranking them highly. I spoke to at least two programs who were submitting there lists this week so I would recommend sending emails at this point to make sure that they get them in time for it to matter. Although at first I thought that a letter would be best, I think a thoughtful well written email is just as effective-I got a very positive reply the same day that I sent mine. However, even after doing all this I'm not sure how much of a difference it will make in the end, but it can't hurt right? Also if it is not a conflict of interest(i.e you are ranking your home school high) let your PD know the programs you really liked(don't have to give them the ranks though)...my PD said that other PDs call all the time asking about different applicants and if they are aware of your preferences they can become your advocate-or even call your top choice.
Good luck everyone.....

I sent letters to my top three programs. In retrospect I wish I would have emailed, I never heard anything back from anybody which succeded only in freaking me out. I am becoming a spaz.

At this point I'm going to try to spend from now until match day as inebriated as possible. I'll sober up by July 1

good luck everyone

I second looked my top spot and have emailed the next 4. Have gotten replies from all of them of various strengths. What does it mean when they send a briefcase full of money, a contract, and 2 escorts over but forget to send a pen? Clearly, if they REALLY liked me they'd have sent a pen, dont you think? I mean, how can I sign without a pen, right? Im screwed.

If there is no pen, use blood...what else do you need it for?

kungfu is deathly afraid of blood. which makes his choice of ER all the more interesting . . . but that's not nearly as strange as his deathly fear of arm hair. strange fellow to say the least.

and i would take the lack of a pen as an indication they really don't want you. i mean, to go through all that trouble and leave out the pen? it's obvious to me at least.

Thanks all for reply. I've decided to send email and state that a written copy is coming as well.

Time to go have a drink...maybe four.
