Contacting your #1

BUMP. So what does everyone think? And if it's suggested to contact our number 1, what would be a good time to do it? Also, I know it is not a good thing to tell multiple programs they are at the top, but why is it ok for many programs (mayo for instance) to routinely do it to us?

thank you for bumping this. there is some quality humor in this thread.

think of it this way... if the program is going to rank you #8, and then they get this letter saying "you're my #1", will they suddenly think "oh well, he likes us, let's make him #4 instead."

do you date the ugly girl just because she likes you?

(no offense ugly girls! me you and beer will always be a perfect love triangle!)

I have to say I have seen that happen. I can't speak for anes programs but a few of my guy friends have ended up with someone 'cause she just really liked him and kept hanging around. Eddie Murphy did a whole stand up bit about it in either Raw or Delirious, can't remember which. maybe it carries over, maybe not.
i have heard someone say that doing this will move you down to that program's last guaranteed spot... like if they get 8 you might be moved from #2 to #8. But from my (limited) understanding of the match it wouldn't matter to the programs ultimate list, right? As far as I get it they put us in our highest spot that the program still has spots for, right? So moving a candidate from spot #6 to #2 would not increase that programs chance of matching the new #2. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
