So I have talked with the school I will be applying too and they have said it is okay if I do not have a science LOR since it has been 3 years since I got my masters and 6 since my BSN. In light of that I will be getting LORS from two previous professors (grad school), one doc. I worked with, an ER nurse I know, and my supervisor at work. None of these people will know what needs to me in a LOR for med school and I will need to coach them. I know they will all write good LORS if I can help them know what to write.

Does anyone have suggestions as to what should be in a LOR to make it "outstanding"? Is there certain wording med schools are looking for?
Thanks for your help.😛

CarolinaGirl -

I interview applicants for my medical school (am currently a 4th year) and it is helpful to have things quantified - ie 'this student is in the top 5% of all students I have taught' or 'this student's final score in my class was in the top 10 that semester'. If you werent that student, dont have LOR writers say 'this student was #40 out of 50 students' - that wont help 🙂

At least at my school, we try to rank LORs according to what they say about about the applicant and any objective info makes that task much easier b/c I can rank you as high as your LORs say. Much of the subjective content of LORs is the same across applicants and is not helpful in deciding what the writer actually thinks/feels about the applicant.

Hope this helps.
