Contents of update letter

I want to update schools about a recent publication, but I don’t really have any other updates. Is it OK to include only the publication in an update letter? Additionally, can I keep the letter brief (i.e. one paragraph explaining the publication and giving the citation) or is there some kind of convention I need to follow (i.e. a section explaining my continuing interest in the school, why I’m a good fit, etc)? Thank you all for your insight.

After seeing endless questions regarding how to go about writing the various letters germane to the medical (and other professional) school application process, I decided to compile some templates for everyone to use. I'll be sending it to Tots in the hope he can sticky this to the application...

Hi! I am also wanting to write an update letter with a recent paper that was accepted. It is currently "in press" so there is no PMID. Is this okay?
