Hey everybody. I applied to volunteer at a hospital and left a bad impression already. I have not started volunteering yet, but just through the application process I've already shown I am not very committed, not very reliable (lateness), and do not seem to be very interested or excited to volunteer. They literally told me this and said they will still accept me to volunteer temporarily to see if I can redeem myself.

I just want to say this is not how I usually am. Professors, coworkers, classmates and people who know me well will never believe it if someone told them I was not a reliable or a responsible person. However, due to certain circumstances, I have made myself seem that way while applying. My question is should I continue to be in an environment where the directors think of me as such or should I apply to volunteer at a different hospital and start new with people who have not gotten a bad first impression?

Tldr; does it really matter if volunteer directors have a negative impression of you?

Unless you are planning on asking this person for a LOR, then go ahead and volunteer there. Just be on time to your shifts and be enthusiastic.

Accept the position and redeem yourself. Once they see that you do not usually conduct yourself in that manner, your original conduct shouldn't be an issue.
