Hi guys,

I'm working on something for UC Davis and would love an updated list of which vet schools still have contracts in place certain state. I'm finding bits and pieces of this online, but not all of it is current. Would someone be kind enough to look it up in the current (2010-2011) VMSAR for me and post it? I'd also love that information for WICHE, too, as well as which states count as WICHE.

Thanks a million!!

I'll also happily answer any questions anyone has about Davis. Especially if you're kind enough to provide the information I'm looking for. Pretty, pretty please?

Thanks!

No problem. If I make it to the SAVMA symposium next spring you can buy me a beer or something. 🙂

This might be a silly question but how do you know if you qualify for WICHE? I have seen this on different sites but didnt know what it was. I just looked it up for the first time right now. How exactly does it work?

I don't know details, but the broad overview, as I vaguely understand it, is that if you are a resident of one of the WICHE states, you can apply to the WICHE program.

If you are accepted into a WICHE school and certified by your state, you generally will pay resident tuition and your state will pay a support fee to the school. However, you do have to commit to returning to your state to practice for a number of years.

Sorry I don't know more details, but here's a link: http://www.wiche.edu/psep .

Thank you... I see that California is "part" of the program but does that only mean our schools allow WICHE students to participate in the program or does that mean I, being a California resident, can participate in the program in other states, or both? I see Davis is a participating institution, so I am a little confused. Thanks for your time 😀

From how I understand it Davis will accept WICHE students, but because as a California resident our state has a vet school (Western is non-residency based) that gives preference to in-state students, we do not qualify for the WICHE program. Neither do OR or WA residents I believe. If you look at the list of states parietal posted, you will notice that none of them have a vet school in their state so instead of paying to build one and have residents go there, the state essentially subsidizes out of state tuition to the point where WICHE students are only paying what a resident at the WICHE school they attend would pay.

That is my understanding as well.

California is a catcher, not a pitcher. 😉

Awesome... well not awesome for me hahaha... thanks guys 🙂

Just an FYI, I have a classmate from NJ and apparently that state has cut all of their contract seats due to the economy - they can't afford to keep them in the budget. I'd double-check all of those listings because other states might have made the same decisions.

Are you serious? I am so screwed...
