Contractions in personal statement?

I think contractions are perfectly fine in a personal statement. Obviously it should still be formal/professional writing but it still should be your voice, and it should sound natural/like something you would actually say if you were talking about what led to your interest in medicine aloud. I certainly don't think it will hold you back from an admissions standpoint.

Thank you for the feedback. My personal statement does come across as formal and professional. I'm just concerned that I might have ruined it by including contractions sparsely throughout the essay. It's unfortunate, but nothing I can do about it at this point..:cautious:
It did not ruin it, and as you said, since you already submitted, you should not look back and think about things you should/shouldn't have written down.

Contractions do not ruin your personal statement. They are neither informal nor unprofessional. You are thinking about this way more than anyone reading your application will. It will not hurt your application that you used contractions, most applicants do.
