Alright, here's the deal: I was accepted to Midwestern and am missing a couple pre-req's (anatomy and microbiology). I graduated from BYU in 2005, but will be able to go back and take these classes in April. The problem is I just realized the anatomy class is a three credit hour class, and MWU requires that it be a FOUR credit hour class. The last day to add classes at my local community college was 8 days ago, so that option's gone. The Summer term starts in May and runs through August, and doesn't really work for me. So here's the question: Is it possible that Midwestern will accept the 3 credit hour anatomy class instead of a 4 hour class? And if that doesn't work, does anyone know of a school that offers a 4 hour anatomy class online (a lab isn't required, so I'm prett sure online should be ok)?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Supertank...first off, congrats on the acceptance. I'll most likely be seeing you there in the fall.

My advice is to call the admissions office and they will connect you with whoever is in charge of your file. Talk to that person about your situation. Maybe there is a possibility that you can take a 3 hour lecture now and a 1 hour lab over the summer (not sure what your summer situation is but that might be better than doing 4 hours over the summer). Check out any other community colleges that are close by or another college maybe?

I know it's a hard situation. I'm taking physiology over b/c the one i already took was only 3 hours and i need 4.

Good luck!

I think it's better to call and ask Midwestern.

Contact the admission office. I was accepted on Dec. 1st, and I have already taken anatomy, but it was also a 3-unit class. On my pre-req page on MWU portal, it indicated that it does not satisfy the requirement.

Can you take the lab in April? Like the anatomy class at your University + the anatomy Lab? That's normally 3+1=4 credits.

I am doing this for a course that requires 4 credits and I only have 3....so it's 3+2 (lab) = 5

Funny thing is that my 3-unit anatomy class included a lab section. I was pretty darn pissed for doing that much work for a 3-unit class.

Ahh! Tell them that and EMAIL the syllabus or whatever Course description that you have.. I haven't seen that before.

It's the same thing at BYU. Microbiology is a 3 credit hour class, but there is a one credit hour lab that you take with it. Anatomy is also a 3 credit hour class, but the lab is not a separate class, you get one grade for both of them.

So, Micro is only 3 credits?? All of it (lab + lecture)=3?

At my school Micro is 4 (lab + lecture). You get only one grade worth 4 credits.

You can't take the lab separately, as the lecture and lab are the same class. BYU offers an anatomy course through independent study, but again it's only 3 hours. The only thing I see that *might* work is that they offer another course called "dissection tech human anatomy" that's 1 credit hour. However, that class only has 12 seats... I think it's reserved for a special group of students.

Good luck man. I really hope it works out. I won't be attending MWU, so it is not a problem for me, but I understand your frustration. I really liked MWU though. I can see that it is heading to the right direction.

At my school Micro is 4 (lab + lecture). You get only one grade worth 4 credits.

For Microbiology you can take MMBio 221, which is a 3 credit lecture, and MMBio which is the one credit lab, so 4 total. For Anatomy there's just one course (PdBio 220) which is the lecture and lab combined, and it's only 3 credits.

I know how frustrating this can be. Just call them first thing in the morning on Monday.

I can't believe that's only 3 hours. I took gross anatomy as an undergrad and it was 5 hours!

Good luck. Does the community college offer a 1 hour anatomy lab? I know you'd be kind of repeating what you do in the 3 hour course...but it would be 4 total if it works!

totally understand how you feel supertank. i took a 5 quarter unit gross anatomy lec with lab but it still didn't satisfy the requirement. Also I took a 4 quarter unit physiology lec with lab which isn't enough. I was told by a midwestern advisor to either take the 4.0 semester unit class one each in anatomy and physiology or take the second semester of a combined anatomy and physiology class. It was so hard to find in my area and am now driving over 40 miles one way three days a week to take these classes. Its insane. But yea I didn't really get to ask the advisor if just taking a one unit lab course would work but you might want to ask. Good luck.
