So,

Boy, sometimes I check the nontrad forum and it brings me down!
I wanted to change gears and talk podcasts.

I was wondering what good science or medical podcasts people are listening to on the forum? Here's a peek at what I kick back and listen to:

1) BrainScience Podcast - one of my favorite podcasts ever. The host, Dr. Campbell is an ER doc from UAB who is passionate about all aspects of the brain. She is an excellent interviewer and usually answers her e-mails promptly. I find she is a great role model for my oldest daughter too (who listens in sometimes). She makes a point to interview many famous and influential female neuroscientists and asks them about their life stories, which is also fascinating. http://docartemis.com/brainsciencepodcast/

2) MedPod101 - geared towards med students and residents, tons and tons of short and sweet topical episodes (<15 mins each) - warning some might find his cheeky voice impersonations offensive or at least annoying. I started listening to this when volunteering in the ER and it was very, very useful. (I can't speak for some of their other podcasts, just the main one FWIW) http://www.medpod101.com/

3) QuackCast - Dr. Crislip is an infectious disease doc who is entertaining and fun to listen to. Talks about Supplements, Complimentary and Alternative Medicines (SCAMs) Apparently, his other podcast about infectious diseases is coincidentally highly recommended by the hosts of the next two on my list. http://www.quackcast.com/

4) This Week in Virology www.twiv.tv
5) This Week in Parasitism http://www.microbeworld.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=99&Itemid=259
- both by two professors from Columbia (and guests). Fascinating banter about the latest research.

6) NEJM Audio Summary for the week - like it says...it's about all I can take of the journal right now!

I love these podcasts in particular, and find that there are few others I can tolerate past one or two episodes.

I drive a crap load of hours for rotations so I listen to podcasts quite a bit. here's some I remember off hand....
annuals of internal or emergency medicine is like NEJM.
mccumbi's great for the USMLE exams or quick section review.
learning radiology.com is awesome (video)!!
emrap has very short minute lectures. (video) there's now an emrap:educators that discuss academic issues.
ICU rounds- dr guy the ICU guy
EMcrit, scott weingart, is becoming one of my favorites, it has notes on the web also

Definitely ICU Rounds by Dr. Guy. He also does a couple of prehospital care podcasts that are good if that's an area of interest, though there's some overlap between all of his podcasts. www.burndoc.net is his website, which is worth a look.

While it's not a podcast, jwatch.org sends great daily and/or weekly round-up emails about recent research... good way to keep informed.

EDIT: Oh yes, and while they're aimed at average folks rather than medical personnel, Discover magazine's Vital Signs podcast has some interesting case presentations, but they don't put out new ones very often these days.

hmm...I like Car Talk, myself

but I am going to check out that first one in your list, vc-with-many-7s; it sounds almost as cool as Click and Clack😉

Agree with ICU Rounds and Pharmacology for the Prehospital Professional.

Love car talk...the tappet brothers!
The car talk-like one is DEFINITELY the TWiV and TWiP podcasts. Just replace cars with viruses and parasites...and their jokes are science-geek jokes.
Check those out...give it a couple of episodes before you pass judgement...

Yeah, I like learning radiology.com alot too. As a pre-med though, my eye glaze over on the 'flashcard review' episodes. I'm sure they make sense to you guys! Other than that, it's one of my daughter's favorites b/c of the video

Sweet! I will have to check out all of these suggestions....Is the ICU Rounds geared towards a soon-to-be MS1 like me?
it's more clinical practice but you'll pick up little tips here and there. best thing for you is medpod101, mccumbi and/or goljan. both have accompany books you can follow from. I think there's one called learning anatomy but honestly as a 4th yr, I am slowly deleting that knowledge out of my head.....

medpod101 hasn't been updated since last year?

Yeah, now that I think about it: I think I have one about female pattern baldness sitting on my ipod I refuse to listen to until a new one comes up! I guess they haven't updated it in quite some time.

If you are into irreverent, check out Mark Crislip's Quackcast. Funny to the point of possibly being offensive.

Thanks so much for these!

The Skeptic's Guide to the Universe! It's hosted by Steven Novella, an academic neurologist at Yale.
