Hello all,
For the leadership part of my application, I have been talking with a blood center volunteer coordinator whom I have previously volunteered under about me heading a blood drive on campus, as soon as the COVID-19 situation permits. I was wanting to know if this is a good/effective way to demonstrate leadership to medical schools, as if I am being honest, I am not interested in and do not have the time to do the 'typical' thing of being the leader/co-leader of a club on campus, or something similar to that effect. However, I would love to do what I previously mentioned, coordinating a blood drive on campus. A plus to this that I was thinking of is that it is medical-related, and that this isn't a common EC, so that might help as well. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance 🙂

Way better than just taking a meaningless position with a club. Leadership doesn't just have to be bossing people around and playing club politics. If you're actively trying to organize and make things happen, I'd consider it leadership. I would highly recommend, however, that this is more than a one time thing so that you show continuity.

Here's a question for you -- is it something you would do anyway? If so, why are you asking here? If not, and you're just doing it to check a box, the odds are high an adcom will sniff that out when the time comes.
