Hi guys,

I copy and pasted my personal statement from word to notepad and then finally to AMCAS. When I printed my application from AMCAS my personal statement looks like I want it to. Is that how the adcoms will see it?

Thanks!

The way you print it is the exact way they'll see it. You should be good to go.

Yup.....WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get)

Unplug the network/phone jack....it's the only way to work....if you know SDN is available you will give in..... 😎

Actually, I think it was a pretty good question.
I made the mistake of cuting/pasting directly from word into AMCAS... What you saw in word was not what you got in AMCAS.
But ya, if you go from word --to--> notepad --to--> AMCAS , you should be good to go.

Thanks for the advise. It worked like a charm!!

Hi,

How do you indent paragraphs in the AMCAS application for the personal statement. I was trying to use three spaces before every paragraph, but whenever I go to the see the print view, it doesn't show a new paragraph.

Is anyone else having this same problem? How are you doing paragraphs?

Thanks,
Huxley

Forget indenting paragraphs, I don't think AMCAS can even recognize hard returns. I just get one big block of words when I print my app. Anyone else? I even tried adding html coding for hard returns but that didn't work either.

I emailed AMCAS, and asked about the formatting since I kept getting one large paragraph as well. This is what they said:

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for contacting AMCAS. The printed version of the application will remove all formatting. If you have followed the proper formatting instruction specified in the Help section of the applcation under Essay, once you submit you should not have any problems.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact AMCAS at 202-828-0600.

AMCAS

Hope this helps.

I think that response is BS... doesn't help at all.
I can't help much, but I believe you should have paragraphs when you print your app. Atleast I can't see them changing that now.... It was ok last year and two years before that when I did the thing.

Try other methods of copy past. Do it from wordpad (BTW, are you using a Windows machine? Linux? Mac?), do it from notepad, put some text into the html page yourself and use return a few times... see what happens and let us know.

I had just pasted what AMCAS wrote back to me...

I tried adding a line between paragraphs. When I go to the print view it shows the blank line, but the indentation that I had is still removed. I wonder it will look, anyone able to make the essay look fine in PRINT VIEW with the tabs, etc?

Sorry. Didn't mean to imply that your response was BS. I meant the AMCAS response back to you was BS! 😉

No worries..

I also tried pasting from Word to Notepad to AMCAS, either way I do it, for the printing view it always comes out unformatted, but when I paste it in the box it comes out as I want, anyone know which view schools will see? I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem. Thanks!

The school's view seems different from our print version. When I went for interviews, they pulled out a sheet with a very different format with my grades on it and it looked better than my printout.

Just do block paragraphs. Don't indent. Just return twice hard between each paragraph and it should show up fine
