I am a predental student but I am working on my biology seminar on Cord blood transplants as an alternative to bone marrow transplants for patients with leukemia. If there is anyone on this forum who is familiar with this work, I would appreciate it if you could PM me. Thanks.

Cord blood is "richer". I use this term to describe the quality of stem cells you get from cord blood... BM you still get good quality but not as rich. It is like having that crapy chocolat and having that 70% coco swiss chocolate.

W/ cord blood the patient will prob recover faster and the cells and their telemeres are younger... meaning they do better over all.

Bone marrow has a smaller concentration of Hematopoetic Stem cells (HSC) and other progenitor Stem cells (PSC).

Cord blood has a greater concentration of HSC and other PSC.

BM is easy to get... Cord blood is NOT. Now they are starting to save baby cord blood for future. Costs a few hundred per year... I will definitely do that for my kids (when I have some).

Do search on Pubmed.... if you have never heard of pubmed go to google and search pubmed.. go to pubmed and search Bone marrow etc...
