Ok, so how important is it to rotate during your 3rd and 4th year at a hospital with linked residency programs?? I would assume one's chances of getting a residency are better if you rotate at the particular site during rotations, versus submitting an application to ERAS and playing the numbers game again...
Anyone have some insight? Did anyone rotate at the hospital they are now currently in residency at??? Your help is greatly appreciated!!

And one other question, would you rotate at a hospital with a wide variety of linked residency programs, but less hands on experience due to all the residents with seniority, greater volume of rotating students, etc...OR...rotate in a rural hospital with the opportunity to be front line, get tons of hands on time putting central lines in, etc... BUT lacking any linked residency programs???

In terms of away rotations it serves a few purposes. But they arent really neccessary unless you are going into something competitive or have a particular area you really want to go to. They alow not only the program to get to know you but also you get to know the program and area. So if thats what you are thinking then id say do it.

I dont know what you mean by linked residency programs. Are you talking an academic hospital vs community hospital? If thats what you mean you are far better served rotating at an academic place. Are you looking for procedures? If so I wouldnt go looking for them in a place that would do fewer(rural communty hospital) Do a trauma ICU rotation at a Level 1 facility.

As far as an academic place having a larger volume of rotating students and more residents thats true. But if you are on a Sub I in a field that they do a ton of procedures then you are the guy. You arent competing with all those other students who are on other rotations. And as far as the residents, well if you make it your second or third rotation of your M4 year they have done all they ever wanted to do and could care less.
