hehe my second day on sdn with a couple posts, and already i have stirred up a lil tiff! thanks for the defense erich...=) i just mentioned sasha/digweed, DT, and porter because i think they're talented as DJs and producers (not necessarily because of their "global underground" title)-- and they are a few of my fav spinners. not too many djs can pull off harmonic mixing (which involves being consciously aware of how much a pitch bend of - 3%, for example, corresponds to in terms of key shifts..and then being able to mix records that are harmonically compatible after they have been beat-matched -- many DJs just put down records without really paying attention to key signatures and consonance)...but that's what underlies the successful progression of these DJs' sets. rhythmically, harmonically, and melodically, they take you on an intense journey -- and that's what i like about them. for me, it doesn't matter whether the venue has a younger clientele, or is alcohol-free...it's all about the music 🙂 that's just me tho...
anyways, i'm actually more into breakbeats -- like Hybrid, Hyper, BT, Icey... chronic -- since you know the scene better in nyc, where can i find breaks venues? esp. nu-skool, progressive, funky breaks? also, is there a psytrance/goa club? thanks =)
my apologies if i veered this thread off the original topic...for those of you who received a flyer about the orientation days, did you get it via snail-mail? i don't think i got anything yet...also, i was wondering -- is there a kitchen on each floor? or only on floors 5-9...i forgot how the dorms looked (it was a while back since my interview day, and i missed the second look). i think i might just depend on the yummy sushi that's nearby =)
