Hi all,

I'm wondering whether people who have interviewed at Cornell psych would be willing to share their impressions of the residents they met there... I'm very interested in the program, love the curriculum and intellectual atmosphere, but couldn't help but feel like the residents I met on my interview day (though admittedly few) were overly formal and a bit uptight. I'm hoping it was simply some sampling bias or that I was reading people incorrectly.

Any thoughts?

I really liked the residents. I met two interns, a PGY2, and two PGY4s. They mostly seemed really smart and thoughtful, with a wide range of interests.

The thing is, it depends on you. Yeah, the residents were on the formal end of the spectrum. It's the uptight-intellectual-East Coast thing. If you're uncomfortable with that, you might not like it there. It felt very familiar to me though.

Actually the second-year I met had transferred as a PGY2 from UCSF, and she said she felt like she didn't fit in with the West Coast residents because they were too casual. It sounded like she felt they were not as strong - but I am pretty sure the UCSF residents are plenty strong; I wonder if it was more because she was not used to the more laid-back vibe.
