As the application cycle is upon us once again, I was wondering if anyone has an idea as to what programs offer cosmetics exposure in residency. I do completely understand that to be well versed enough to have priveleges to do these procedures that require an OR that one might have to have fellowhship training, but what programs offer elective experience within cosmetics as a part of the program?

Also I know that without an MD, it is unlikely of being able to do a cosmetics fellowship but is it impossible without one to do the fellowship?

And I agree reputability with patients in private practice and referral sources in doing those procedures on a routine or even non routine basis without an MD is to be considered, but what is y'alls expeience with this. I don't even know if I would be interested in cosmetics in depth or even a fellowship, but it's just a question I'd like insight into as one who doesn't know much about the subject matter.
Thanks so much!

Look into Nassau Medical on Long Island. They do a decent amount of cosmetics and really are a good underlooked/unknown program. And it's not impossible to do a cosmetic fellowship without an MD. Griffin in Mississippi runs a AAOMS recognized 2 year cosmetic fellowship and takes single degree guys. From what I've heard he has a good relationship with the Nassau guys, at least, a few of his recent fellows trained there. Hope that helps, good luck.

I can tell you from past experience from my friends who completed this fellowship at St. Johns, that you get a great exposure to facial cosmetics in addition to areas that may be lacking in certain residency programs.

They do lots of cosmetics, including face lifts, blephs, rhinos, etc...So for some of my friends they got a great experience before entering private practice to acquire full cosmetic privileges.

Also they do some crazy trauma cases and reconstruction cases from what I am told. Now Nerves!!

There is a new doc there, Barbick who has his MD degree that is now starting his own microneurosurgical practice. No one in St. Louis or around does nerve repair so its a gold mine from what I am told.

This sounds like a great fellowship as I saw their numbers and volume and its a great fellowship that exposes you to complicated cases. Also there is a rotation with the plastic surgery dept going to the OR doing Cosmetic cases.

We do quite a bit at LSU-NO

Yes I am def applying there. Heard so many good things about that program! Hopefully i'll get an interview. One of my buddies externed there and said it was an excellent training program. I externed at Shreveport and wanted to get to NOLA but had to complete some of my clinical requirements that had to be done by the end of summer.

Also thanks to you others for the input. I really do appreciate it.
