I was wondering how I was going to pay for all of my interviews, flights, application fees, dat, dress clothes and so on. How did you do it? Did you apply for a loan earlier and get the money or did it come out of your pocket? I don't think I will have enough if I have to pay out of my pocket. I know it will end up costing a couple of grand to get all of this done. What did you do? Thanks!

I don't think you can apply for student stafford loans before starting school....you can however apply for private loans from your bank, but I'm sure the interest rate won't be subsidized and will be a lot higher than for a student loan

I paid out of pocket. I have currently spent around $2000 not including an extra $1500 for DAT prep and then taking off a couple of months from work to study. I would say look into AADSAS fee reduction program. I didn't but in hindsight wish I would of. I also know of one school I don't remember which one but it was on their website that will waive your secondary fee if you can prove you are financially qualified to have it waived.
hope this helps its depressing me just thinking about all the money I have spent so far.

I was looking at this med school interview book and it mentioned that many airlines offer discounts to students travelling to interviews. I don't know which ones, how much, or anything else though. It would be worth checking out if money is tight.

I wouldn't count on it. Somehow, I think that's a pretty rare piece of info that most airline representatives wouldn't have any clue about. Maybe if you didn't mind shuffling through about an hour or two worth of transfers you might find out if an airline actually does do this, but it probably isn't likely or worth the hassle.

Most people pay for interviews out of pocket. They either have family $ or thought ahead enough to save $ from work or save some $ they got from their financial aid during undergrad.

If you think ahead from freshman year and put $50 away every month, you'd have enough to apply by the end of your junior year, but since most people don't think ahead, credit cards and picking up last minute shifts at work are how most people deal with it.

I started saving up early, not SUPER early, but early enough to where I think I should have it under control. I didn't want to feel like I was soending so much at one time, so I decided to put the money I was saving into a special account dedicated for dental school. When that money runs out, I'll rely on my good friends visa, mastercard, and amex, lol.

Marry a dental hygienist... that's all you have to do.

Air simon...you're a riot. I'd say marry a doctor/dentist, or any kind of money, but you beat me to it.

Cheers.

I just took out a $8000 student loan to finish up the app process.

Love student loans!!!!

Cheers.

does anyone know of the airlines that offer this interview discount? i read that medical students going for residency interviews get discount, but nothing for regular medical school interviews (and if they would count dental under that 'medical' title). I have sent emails to US Airways, American Airlines, and Delta so if I get a response, I will let everyone know.
