Cost of interview suit?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I spent $2000, but I am tiny and can only get suits that are specially tailored. That, and it is really cute. I also don't plan on eating for 2 years. Or buying clothes ever again. But hey, it's all loan money (i.e. monopoly money) at this point, so I say treat yourself.

$2,000 😱 I'm envious. That seems like a lot of money to spend.

I try to get them for <200, but sometimes it isn't possible.
<300 is pretty good...usually the $290 one looks a bit better than the $150 one.
$2000 is way too much to spend on a suit...I'd never spend that and I have moonlighting money to spend. But I guess it's all relative...I mean if you are only 100k in debt vs. $200k, then maybe the $2k interview suit doesn't matter. You better be wearing that suit x 10 years, though.

What kind of suit is generally acceptable? I'm assuming black, navy blue, and gray are all okay?? Are small pinstripes okay??

And what are you gals wearing to the informal dinners the night before? I'm guessing "clinic" pants and a nice sweater??

so many things to stress about:scared:

I second the informal dinner attire question & the so many things to stress about! And I know this is a suit thread, but are the girls bringing a purse or just a padfolio? This is a bad pic (http://www.dallasjuniorforum.org/photos/2008_auction/madeline_tote_large.jpg) but I have this great coach bag that will fit a padfolio in it along w/ any essentials for the day. If I take the blue ribbon off is it professional enough? Thanks!

suits: Just went to Macy's yesterday and they are having a sale with perhaps a dozen nice suits for less than $150.

pre-interview dinner: I'm assuming that the residents are going to be coming straight from the hospital so we should dress up enough not to stick out. This is one where we're lucky to be girls-it's easier to wear a nice sweater and not have to ponder tie/no tie.

Things to carry on interview day: I think most programs will give you a folder that you'll have to carry. If it looks OK and not bulky, I'm hoping to carry car key/wallet in my suit pocket and not carry any bag/portfolio. If it can't be done then I will probaby carry a small black purse. Do we really have to have extra CV copies? I carried that stuff to my medical student interviews and never, ever gave away a single copy.
