Could A "Killer Score" On the DAT Hurt?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You're thinking about it too much. The higher the DAT score, the better your chances, period. I'd bet most people with a sub-3.0 GPA either can't or won't score a "killer" score. Just study hard and do the best you can and stop worrying about doing too well.

you are thinking too much into it. getting a killer score is easier said than done. study hard first, get the score, then worry about all the what if scenarios. many people have a reason for a poor performances in undergrad (slacker, had to work, family issues, etc...). good luck

Hey, you do definitely need something to offset your low GPA. If I were you, I would realize that I have to do a ton of work if I want to reach my goal of getting into a dental school. You need to start studying now, and there's nothing wrong with making a goal of 25s across the board. Actually, I say you aim for 30s across the board, and if you can't get that, your scores should still be high. If you have the right motivation, it's very possible... Good luck!!

I haven't taken the DAT yet, which is why I asked this. And of course I will try my best I'd be a fool not to. I am just curious to know if any OTHER students have in fact been rejected with those stats (low gpa, high dat) that's all.

Why not present your "killer" score and than post your question?

Ah man, I love you. hahaha

To the OP: If you are trying to think of a reason not to study, don't.
Also, in SOME schools a 3.0 is by no means easy to achieve and could easily be matched by a 22+ on the DAT without studying much (sort of a side note).

Just do your best on the DAT, apply and then see what you get. GPA and DAT are the most important factors, but not the only criteria dental schools look at in applicants.
I knew a guy in my class last year with 2.8 GPA and 17 DAT and yet, he made it into the dental school in Ohio. He's not sure what happened either. I'm not sure if he had a very unique PS or what, but he did have some unique backgrounds. He had a family to take care of, a wife and two kids, and he worked full time while going to school, so those might have been considered. So, you never know, but still, do your best on the DAT. That is the best thing you can at this point it looks like.
Good Luck!

actually i have applied for this cycle and i have AADSAS gpa of BCP:3.1, SCI:2.97, Non-sci: 3.2. i applied on july but my whole application was completed by the end of october. anyways i managed a 22 on the AA, and a 23 on my sciences. i did 24 on my BIo and 26 on Ochem , and a 22 on Gchem. i havent heard back from dental schools yet and i have already rejected from couple of schools, my guess woul be that they may be waiting for my fall 08 grades! anyways im really worried...my bet would be that everything counts! some schools pay more attention to the gpa
