what is a word that could replace,"balance" in this sentence?

"As I watched her balance good diagnostic questions and…"

I meant balance by being able to judge what questions should be asked in order to find the diagnosis. I feel like the word "balance" isn't the right word. I don't want to use the word "ask" either.

help please? or someone could rephrase this entire phrase?

trying to turn it in my application by tomorrow night.

As I watched her select questions that would help differentiate diagnoses...

As I watched her determine the appropriate diagnostic questions....

or

As I watched her decide the appropriate diagnostic questions....

or

As I watched her choose the appropriate diagnostic questions...

Perhaps you're thinking of "evaluate?"

Pose- to ask a question, often one that requires some consideration (I like this one best)

Importune- to ask somebody continually, repeatedly, or forcefully for something, especially in a troublesome way (This is next on my list)

Beseech- to ask earnestly or beg somebody to do something (I also like this one as well)

Contemplate- to think about something as a possible course of action (You might could make this word work)

Inquire- to try to discover the facts of a case (By asking questions she is indeed trying to do this, yes?)

Solicit- to try to get something by making insistent requests (This might work but it would not be my first option)

You also might want to replace the word "GOOD" with something like: high-quality, excellent, brilliant, outstanding, thought provoking, exceptional, dazzling, first rate, or superb.

The word "good" sounds weak.

Hope this helps.
