sure puts the application process in perspective for me 👍

Meh, you're gonna hate patients, being a doctor isn't about liking all of them. It's the better encounters that make the crappy ones worth it.

Anyone who thinks they're gonna like their whiny child molestor patient on the medical floor with a pelvic fracture he sustained from getting beatup by a mallcop for diddling kids in a bathroom is deluding himself. (This is a real patient I've had!)

He's been around longer using various aliases. Another gem, in Non-trad I believe, is " Why the Cynicism".

For your reading pleasure, ladies and gentlemen.... "Why the Cynicism?"

Troll thread or not, it does make you wonder....

Somehow I doubt that OP was referring to these particular kinds of patients...

That was encouraging in a depressing kind of way....

Yikes

Threads like these make me sit down and evaluate my decision to pursue medicine ...atleast just to give myself that reality check...that I will be living scenarios like this and maybe worse for many many years to come...

Pre-meds can't comment in Allo? Didn't know that was a rule.

Premeds can comment on other forums, but since most of them are clueless and post garbage there, it's recommended that premeds shouldn't post there. I don't post there occasionally, because I don't want to upset those who are more educated and mature (only some (<20%) premeds in the forum are mature).

IMO it's pretty tough to judge someone's maturity based on an anonymous internet forum where people feel free to say things they would never actually say to someone's face.

I've posted there a few times - like in any forum, only post if you have something relevant to say. Or post irrelevant stuff and get flamed.

Back to the thread: Yeah, you're gonna hate a lot of your patients probably (hate is a strong word though). If you're smart enough and resilient enough to get into medical school, you should be resilient enough to only let it get to you once in a blue moon.

It's pretty simple. If you're a typical pre-med who is unbearably idealistic, don't post in the allopathic subforum.

I don't believe this story. Mall cops can't beat up anyone.

You're probably right. However, premeds tend to fake stats, aggravate neuroticism, false represent medical schools, act arrogant and superior to medical students etc... At least the good news is the medical school admission process screened most of them out (hopefully), but those who survived got slaughtered in the coursework. That's one main reason why I like medical school, and why I despise being a premed.

Premeds could troll in other forums, but they would face very dire consequences...

We probably can, but besides asking a question, I doubt we have much to offer in those other forums. And the last thing I want if this persons thread to get cluttered with premed opinions. I'm sure if he wanted our opinions he would have posted the thread here.

That said, I find it interesting that this person ( again, troll or not) is being encouraged to go into non contact fields of medicine...which is not a bad option. But then a big chunk of healthcare interactions involves direct contact with patients who are not always going to be nice and compliant. This is where the "put things in perspective" part comes in.

If patients are annoying and we dont want to deal with their mess, do we all then move into high tech, minimal contact fields? What would be a viable solution?
