Next quarter I might take this class at UCLA where you teach children about the brain. It's a neuroscience elective class, but I believe it it's all teaching. Would this count as a science course?

no because you aren't learning anything.

Both of these statement are incorrect (for the AMCAS at least).

I have done two semesters where I was a teaching intern for freshman biology lab (not like I'm learning anything either). It counted on my previous app to the AMCAS as biology.

As long as either the "department" is under the biological sciences or the "title" is a biological science, it should count. There are some exceptions to this but you must make the case that it is a neuroscience course (this maybe tough because you are teaching students not at the undergrad level).

You got credit for being a TA? All i get is a wage.. rip off.

Actually I will explain that. The school allows undergrads, who have taken introductory biology and gotten at least a B, to be able to "intern" the lab. This means one would work underneath the supervision of a teaching assistant (an assistant to the assistant). The intern will normally only get a grade for the course (but can get paid if they also apply for student employment, $8 dollars an hour).

I was also a TA as well and yeah you don't get credit for being a TA. However, bi-monthly stipends were good and my tuition was completely free for 9 credits.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I remember one guy being a TA for microbiology and getting the pay and tuition for it and at the same time receiving 2 credits for the lab he is teaching! In this case, yeah you're right, it is a rip off...

this. and teaching provides the instructor with an even better understanding of the material.

Without a doubt. You understand the material better and longer when you need to take the material you know and have to communicate it effectively and concisely for others.
But yah, research, TAing science, etc should count.

If it's listed under the bio dept. and you get graded for it then yeah you can factor it into your science gpa
