Hey guys,

I just started working at a retail pharmacy!!

I had a patient asking me to recommend something OTC to detoxificate the body? I had no idea.

Also, I know that Ketorolac Oral and IV form is only recommended for max 5 days, Is it true for Ophthalmic suspension too??

Any help will be very helpful.🙂

Congrats on your new job!

As you may recall, the duration of systemic ketorolac is limited to 5 days due to significant increased risk of GI bleeding. Since opthalmic ketorolac is not systemically absorbed, it does not carry the same duration limit; except when used to treat inflammation after cataract surgery as long-term (>2-3 weeks) use can cause increased risk of corneal adverse effects.

Do you have access to Natural Standard? http://www.naturalstandard.com/databases/herbssupplements/all/a/
Another reference for supplements is Medline Plus http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/herb_All.html
There's another good evidence-based CAM reference that I'm forgetting...

Re: detox

Nothing is FDA approved to do that, really. You need to find out what they are actually looking for. There are liver, colon and kidney detox herbal products out there, but efficacy is questionable. Odds are they are just trying to pass a drug test. Until you have more info, you can't really help.

Just to add on, if I were to be asked with the question, I would ask back like "What are you trying to detox? (and where)" and try to get their symptoms first. By detox, some people could also mean trying to be losing weight, and that would change the counseling entirely.
