hey all, I have a couple of questions for current students. I need something to do for the next 7 months so I figure it may help to refresh some stuff before school starts.

1) Can you guys recommend a good head and neck anatomy text? If you had to pick ONE anatomy text, what would you pick?

2) What are other subjects that you wish you were more familiar with when you started? In other words, what other stuff would you recommend a to review before school starts?

3) For those of you in PBL. Is there anything one can do to prepare for PBL?

I personally think you are insane. Enjoy the next seven months and do nothing. BUT, if you are so inclined:

1. Get Netter's Anatomy. Review the whole body, you have to learn it anyways.

2. Review Biochem, Histology, Pathology, Microbiology, Neuro Anatomy, Embryology, etc. Basically all your basic sciences. Go look at what is on the Part I boards and start learning that stuff.

I like Netter neuroscience atlas. Very good diagrams

This is your best advice. However, I would not waste my $$$ on texts. I would email people at the school and see if you could get their notes. From my experience and from what I have seen on SDN most classes in dental school are note based as opposed to text based. Profs will stress what is important and many texts are just too much info. The only class that we have had where I felt the text book was really beneficial has been Immuno (immunobiology by Janeway), but this too is VERY detailed and outside of the scope of the course in some instances.

Party like a rockstar, they will teach you everything you need to know.

I totally agree with you agreeing with me. 😀 Good advice on the notes. I haven't touched a textbook in ANY class, except for Oral Surgery. Everything else I have been taught comes straight from my instructors notes, research, etc.

Yeah.. I agree
I asked 2 of my upper classmates here if I could make copies of their notes.
I heard from a couple of D1,2 students during my lunch at the interview, that they used most of their texts just for reference..

Thanks for the info toofshucker!
I guess it would be wise to go over on what's on part 1 boards..
Can you also recommend a text or book for biochem?

Yeah.. I guess I am insane to ask these questions when I should be enjoying my time right now..But actually I have 8 months left before dental school starts.. and I'll probably get tired of partying and relaxing after a month or two 🙄

Men.

I so shouldn't have started dental school single 🙁
