How do you guys think it's viewed if you and your wife both want to do Ob/Gyn? Would a program like to take a married couple? Do you think PD's would think it would be difficult logistically? Thanks for any input...

does anyone work in a residency with a married couple?

u. of arizona has a married couple! but different years...R2(or R3) and R1.🙂 I guess it's different than your situation since you'll be applying at the same time. one thing to think about though is that you can't schedule vacation at the same time where as if you went to different programs you could potentially do so.

Also, consider cities that have more than one OB residency program (i.e. Houston, Chicago, New York City, New Orleans, Tampa/ St. Pete, Atlanta, etc).

I know of two residency programs in AZ with a married couple...Phoenix Children's peds has a married couple and then UofA has a married couple. I actually think the married couple in different years is weirder because the R2 is in charge of his intern wife on occation....I was on one call night with them and it was definilty humerous.
Anyway, my point...I think it is doable. I would just look for a bigger program or do the two programs in one city thing...though with two OB's, you might actually see more of eachother if you were in the same program, though you would miss out on things like vacation ect. Defintly look for a night float too because other wise the great likelihood is that you would spend very few nights in the same bed.

Back in my nursing days, we had a couple that was the same year, same program in family practice. It worked out fine for them, didn't seem to be an issue - she had a baby during the residency too (so they obviously saw each other some...😀 ) They are still happily married.

Just wanted to bump this thread for any possible updates on current sentiments of couple matching into the same specialty. My wife and I are both strongly considering OB/Gyn, and would like to end up in the southeast (GA, SC, VA, AL, LA). Any new info, etc... would be appreciated 👍

It's been done recently and is do-able. I PM'd you.
