Hey SDN members,

I am debating whether or not I can take the DAT next summer. My school offers a genetics class and a cell and molecular biology class. The genetics class is a pre-req for c&m bio, so I'm wondering whether or not the genetic class alone will prepare me for the DAT.

I appreciate any advice, thanks!

The genetics class will be overkill for the DAT. I never took a genetics class but I can get every DAT genetics question correct before I even finish reading the question. The type of genetics questions tested on the DAT are at an elementary level. This can be learned thru Campbell's, Destroyer and other prep materials.

It also depends on how much knowledge you already have on genetics. I found that after taking my genetics class it helped me with a number of questions pertinent to the DAT aside from just simple mendelian 9331 type of stuff.

It's your call, but the better foundation you get from you bio classes the better intuition you get for the types of questions they can throw at you. That's just my opinion after taking a few upper div. bio classes.
