When going clinic to clinic to try to find a place to get experience or a job, I know a cover letter is needed. If I'm planning on going several places, do you guys think a letter that is addressed generally is inappropriate? I mean like a "to whom it may concern" or "dear hiring manager" situation without any information specific to that hospital... Sorry if this sounds dumb. I was just nervous about not putting anything in the part where you're supposed to put the address of the place you're applying to along with the name of the person where the resume/application should be directed.

What did you guys do when you were looking for positions?

Take the extra two minutes to insert the appropriate name/address/hospital into each letter. Then make sure you hand them the right one.

I agree. I plan out where I will be going and call ahead of time to ask who the hiring manager is. Then I take 10 minutes to insert the name and address of each person (and clinic if it's in your letter).

Good luck!

I put "To Whom It May Concern at [XYZ] Animal Hospital"

although I gave out 3 different cover letters + resumes, the vet i ended up shadowing i never gave a cover letter/resume (i found her via my current school's alumni directory, emailed her directly, and she said to come on in...the other 3 places wouldn't even return my follow up phone calls).
