Has anyone interviewed here this year or are there current residents who could comment on the program? I'm at the end of my interview rope - no more cash and no more energy. I love San Francisco and am interested mainly for that reason. From what I can tell, it seems like a very solid community program. Ideally, I think I would like to be at a University program. I've interviewed at enough places to rank 9-10 programs. There's a good chance that CPMC would rank higher on my ROL than some. But I'd love to hear anyone's experience here. Thanks!

I interviewed at CPMC last month. I thought it was a very solid program and probably the most academic of any community program that I've seen and the didactics appeared very well organized. Most of their residents were U.S. grads. And the location really is fantastic. You can see the Golden Gate Bridge from the hospital! Seemed like they got a good mix of patients despite being in an affluent area of San Francisco. Rent, of course, will be painful.

Overall, I got the impression that it was ICU heavy and so someone interested in pulm/CC might be especially at home there. They have a well known liver transplant program too, so that could be good for someone interested in GI or hepatology specifically as well. It also serves as a referral center for the other Sutter hospitals (which there are like 30 of) so you'll see unusual things in every specialty, as well as more common things. Graduates appear to have a good chance at getting what they want to do after residency, be it fellowship, hospitalist or primary care. It did seem like the residents there have a workload that is a little above average (the website itself states they believe it is in the "75 percentile"), but they seemed quite content and there weren't complains of work hour violations, etc. or anything like that.

Hope that helps. Just my impressions as an interviewee.

CPMC is a solid program. In cali, it's equivalent to Cedars Sinai in SoCal -- as an academic institution disguised as a community program. CPMC is known, even in my neck of the woods so-to-speak.

I believe many of the attendings at CPMC have faculty positions at Stanford or UCSF, one more than the other. Most of the residents were happy when I visited, and majority were AMGs... just like Cedars Sinai.

Don't let the "community program" label phase you. They match well in fellowships in Cali, if that's where you want to be. Solid program with reputation. Beautiful area too.
