I'm thinking about extending my licensure to CA. I passed the EPPP in the fairly recent past and want to know how similar this test is to the california test (CPSE). I know all the objective differences, but I'm looking for more subjective information from those who have taken both recently. Thanks!!

I can't verify where I read it, but somewhere it said that the CPSE is being phased out and all that will matter soon is the EPPP in CA. I know this doesn't answer your question, but it might lead you to some helpful information.

That is true. You can watch the CA board meeting from October 2012 where they discuss this phasing out. However, I spoke to the board recently and the rep noted that it will likely be another year before it is phased out. The pass rates seem fairly high, I'm just looking for individuals' subjective experience with the test to help guide my study goals. It just feels crazy to take another EPPP-like test, for both the study time and cost of prep materials.

The CPSE is a test specific to California state legal requirements and ethics standards. Many states have a similar element, as far as I know, to determine that a registrant has sufficient knowledge of the state code. They have been making some changes in the process but it should not be understood as a comparable test; it is a supplemental exam that is much shorter and more specific to state standards and code.
